Just be...together

Tara Whitney has a personal project going on where she is taking a photo of her whole family together once a month. I always get to the end of the year and wish I had more photos of us together. This morning, after Easter service, I finally got us together for a shot.

Yes, those are dog treats in my hand, which were used to make the husky mutt sit still. It's bunny season after all and she's pretty much going out of her mind with excitement these days. Yesterday she jumped a fence after a squirrel, then tried to climb a tree. She actually partially succeeded. Somehow she suspended all 58 pounds of herself a couple feet off the ground, onto the tree trunk, for about 10 seconds. It was nothing short of spectacular.

This past month I was gone a lot. To Philadelphia, Detroit, and southern Florida. Matt held down the fort and dealt with our troublemaker for a good part of the month. I caught up with some friends I haven't seen in too long. I also worked a lot. I had a rental car die on me in Detroit, and then I went without a rental car in Florida which everyone said was impossible. I got by with shuttles, the commuter rail, the bus, and the kindness of acquaintances. I met people through work who made my heart sing. I am very glad my work allows me to meet people who care about other people. I also applied for a job that will take us home, if I get it. Matt had another gig with his band, and played more hockey. He's also taken on vegetarianism for the time being. A friend asked me, "Did he see Food, Inc. or something?" I told him it was fine with me as long as he eats fish because he doesn't eat beans or lentils or soup or casseroles or even nuts in salads. He loves tofu though. I'm learning to tolerate it and cook with it. If you have any amazing tofu recipes, please send them to me. Outside, it rained and rained and rained, but finally the sun is back.

It's so good to be home and together again.

That really is a cute picture of you guys. I'm SO glad I got to see you when you were in Michigan! Sarah and I had such a good time with you. And PS, I posted a picture on my picture blog of a food I think Matt will like. :)

Happy Easter!

Ha! I saw the food pic. He probably would! It kind of freaks me out that they have all these tofu products that taste like chicken.

I had a really really great time!! We will hopefully get to do it again soon!

Sounds like the promises of spring are upon you! Good luck with the job search.

A friend of mine gave me a recipe for a grilled tofu thing with sesame/ginger/soy marinade that is really good. I think it is from a Mark Bittmann cookbook. I have seen variations on that in a lot of other places too. I also like to use cubed extra firm tofu in just about any dish where cubed meat is called for--curry, stir fry, etc. Yummy!

Thanks Heidi! I love Mark Bittman! I'll check it out. I've been doing a pinapple juice, garlic, ginger, soy, green onion, sesame oil marinade that's been working out pretty well.
